What to Expect on the Trail
A 1,200-Foot Mangrove Canopy
Starting near the entrance gate of the historic Cedar Key Cemetery, the elevated wooden boardwalk winds its way out to the point. While the sweeping, open marsh views of years past have filled in with vigorous natural growth, the boardwalk now acts as an immersive tunnel through the mangroves. This canopy provides lovely shade and an intimate, up-close look at the intricate root systems and coastal ecology that protect the island.
Birdwatcher's Haven
Because the mangroves have grown up around the walkway, you are right in the middle of the habitat. Keep your ears and eyes peeled for:
Wading Birds: White Ibis, Herons, Roseate Spoonbill, and Egrets tucked into the shallow root systems.
Songbirds & Canopy Dwellers: Warblers, mockingbirds, and Common Yellowthroats flitting right through the branches alongside the boardwalk. You’ll often hear, but rarely see, the Clapper Rail.

Parking: Vehicles are not allowed to park inside the park itself. Dedicated parking is available at the cemetery entrance gate where the boardwalk begins.
Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late afternoon for cooler temperatures, active fishing and wildlife, and soft golden-hour lighting. Bug spray is a highly recommended addition!
