Dear reader: It’s been one month since I sent the first newsletter and I am overwhelmed with the great feedback I have received. Thank you to those that took the time to reply with your kind words. I have read great stories of your connection to Cedar Key and am grateful to read how much you are enjoying the events list and other stories I’ve sent out. It has motivated me to pursue this as a business and I am excited to share that I have done just that!
I registered with the City of Cedar Key and joined the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce this past week. I look forward to bringing more attention to our local businesses and non-profits as well as what makes Cedar Key so special.
I have had several people reach out who want to support the newsletter with a paid subscription plan. The newsletter will always be FREE! However, if you would like to help me cover costs and be a financial supporter, I would greatly appreciate it. You can do that here (https://www.ilovecedarkey.com/subscribe).
If you are a business and would like to sponsor content or if you know of any grants that I should apply for, let me know. I am looking into that as well. I am excited to see where this adventure will take me. - Lisa in Cedar Key🏝️
41st Annual Cedar Key Small Boat Meet

41st Annual Cedar Key Small Boat Meet
The 41st Annual Cedar Key Small Boat Meet is happening from May 1 to May 3, 2026. This event is the premier gathering for small craft enthusiasts on Florida’s West Coast and remains one of the most uniquely relaxed events in the boating world.
If you are planning to attend or just curious about the tradition, here is what makes this "non-event" so special:
The "Un-Organized" Philosophy
What sets the Cedar Key Small Boat Meet apart is its lack of formal structure. For over four decades, it has followed a simple set of "rules":
No Registration: Just show up with your boat.
No Fees: There is no cost to participate in the meet itself.
No Schedule: There are no organized races, banquets, or speakers.
The "Committee": The only organizers are Tides and Weather.

What Readers Are Saying
“Just wanted to say your newsletter and information is top notch. The format, all of it, very impressive. I look forward to reading it all the time. My Wife and I purchased a home a couple of years ago and we get down every few months from Michigan, and our goal is to come more often in years to come. Thanks for your work in all of this.” -Chad V.

Cedar Key Food Pantry seeks donations

The Cedar Key Food Pantry has always recognized holidays at the pantry. If you have any new or gently used items that would be useful for their Mother’s Day giveaway, please drop them off to Ms. Sue at the Chamber of Commerce or have them delivered to the address or PO Box above. If anyone has any new or gently used fishing poles or fishing gear, they have some ladies who would love to have that, too. Stay up-to-date on the Cedar Key Food Pantry by following their Facebook Page.
Picture of the Week
The Faraway Inn property was cleared this week. There will be several residential units built there. As sad as it is to see such a landmark of Cedar Key completely gone, we are reminded that Cedar Key is always changing.

Commissioners Sworn in and Mayor and Vice Mayor Selected
At the City of Cedar Key Commission meeting last Tuesday, April 21, two commissioners were sworn in by Levy County Judge Luis Bustamante. Nancy Sera was re-elected to Seat 2 and Dell Weible was elected for Seat 4. The commission then voted Jim Wortham as Mayor and Mel Beckham as Vice Mayor.
If you want to watch the whole meeting, you can view the Zoom recording at the City of Cedar Key’s website. I have created a clipped version of just this portion that you can watch on YouTube.
